How do you take one of the most hotly-anticipated games of the year and make it even more enticing for fans? You add the legendary Freddie Mercury of Queen, of course.
Nintendo’s latest Super Smash Bros. Ultimate “More Fighters, More Battles, More Fun” trailer has a frenetic look at the fighters fans can brawl as when the game releases this December. It’s also bereft of music in its original form, but one eagle-eyed fan discovered that, when adding Queen’s 1978 hit song “Don’t Stop Me Now” to the mix, the video syncs up with many of the tune’s lyrics in a way that seems almost as if it were done on purpose.
The video, published to YouTube by the user FennecFox, has already been viewed over 267,000 times and has attracted commenters who all refuse to believe the matchup is more than just a mere coincidence. That’s because it features several visual references to the song’s lyrics, which indicate the possibility that someone responsible for this ad is either a Queen fan or was heavily influenced by the hit from the album Jazz while creating it.
The references are uncanny, especially the “I’m burning through the sky” line, where Charizard makes its appearance—Charizard, as many of you know, is a fire-breathing Pokémon. “I wanna make a supersonic man outta you” plays just as Sonic the Hedgehog appears on-screen. When Animal Crossing’s Isabelle turns to the camera, it’s synced up with the line “like Lady Godiva” (though thankfully Isabelle is nothing like the real Lady Godiva on her horse).
You can see the original below, which weirdly enough doesn’t include music but sound effects. The base video has been especially useful for fans, who have taken it and ran with it, adding their own songs that also seem to go extremely well with the trailer—though none sync up as beautifully as Queen’s.

“If you wanna have a good time, just give me a call” at the end, referring to playing together online using Nintendo’s smartphone app.

That’s amazing wow. Nintendo’s really stepped up their marketing game since the switch got announced. I wish they would have used this song, especially since they used believer in the Super Bowl BOTW commercial
— Quinn (@QuinnSTLCards) November 12, 2018
Definitely. I have no idea how this song matches up so perfectly (see Super Sonic with Sonic on screen, Shooting Star before Kirby… Defy Gravity while characters float, etc.). But the marketing has been fantastic (WAY BETTER than Wii U’s tragedy). Great for BotW and Ultimate.

Others have taken to putting together their own versions of the trailer, though none sync as well as “Don’t Stop Me Now.” Still an A+ for effort here, though!
