Starting this week, Disney is posting a series of daily Star Wars shorts. The first is a three-minute animated story about Rey during The Force Awakens, with Daisy Ridley reprising her role.
Forces of Destiny is an all-ages series that explores unseen moments with popular characters from the franchise. Showrunner Jennifer Muro says her goal was to illuminate scenes of “everyday heroism” for characters like Rey, showing how smaller events can shape a character’s story.
“Sands of Jakku,” the first episode, takes place after Rey meets BB-8 on Jakku, introducing an alien species that we only saw for a moment in the movie. It also suggests that Rey used the Force before she knew what that really meant, similar to Anakin Skywalker’s early life on Tatooine.
Future episodes will star other fan-favorite characters like Leia and Amidala, along with lesser-known heroes from the animated shows.
