A Star Wars fan used thousands of Lego blocks to build a scene from The Last Jedi’s Battle of Crait, according to io9.
David Hall began this project in November 2017, and on Thursday he went on Twitter to announce the (very successful) completion of his project spanning 33 weeks across 14 months.
Hey @starwars this is my Battle of Crait, 100,000 bricks.. over 13 months to build! #legostarwars pic.twitter.com/sb6ZHIFdsI

Hall announced the milestone on YouTube as well, apologizing for the delay and explaining that he was transitioning from his junior year to senior year in college while completing the project (not to mention probably giving everyone a complex for their lack of multitasking skills.) He said it’s “easily over 75,000 pieces” and “could be 100,000 pieces.”
“We’re officially done,” he says in the video uploaded in early January. “This is the finished Crait behind me.”
The set features 75 stormtroopers and 2,700 “triangles” representing the layer of white salt in Crait. The stormtroopers are placed randomly as opposed in straight lines.
“They should be kinda dodging the bullets….or lasers in this case,” he explains in the video. “They shouldn’t be just marching in a straight line.”
Regular fans work on replicas. But die-hard fans like Hall do even better: they manipulate the storyline to their preference, putting in a personal touch. Hall announced in the video that he’s intentionally not following the script in the set.
“It’s kinda more like The Last Jedi Crait battle scene on drugs,” he says in the video. “Because it’s more enhanced, it’s epic, it’s kind of a lot more than what you see in the movies. It’s kind of what I wanted to do and express.”
He also thanked his fans for their support and patience, but it appears the set is worth the wait.
“I’m a little silent viewer so I don’t comment that often but you can rely on me always watching your videos. I’ve been a subscriber for MANY years, and I’m so proud of you, being here for SO long and always doing what you love,” one user commented on the January video.
“Amazed; Crait came out amazing, David,” wrote another. “I am super happy to have followed this series along side you and even more proud I was able to contribute the walker to the MOC. You nailed every little detail in every little crevice of this display and that is something to be proud of.”
As with all online content, there were some haters too. But Hall said in the video he’s happy with his work. “Overall, very happy with how this ended up,” he says towards the end of the video. “It looks really good.”
Bonus points to him for owning it.
