Miyazaki’s ‘Spirited Away’ in 8-bit form really feels like an adventure game

YouTube channel Cinefix has created 8-bit versions of many pop-culture staples, pixelating everything from Anchorman to Kill Bill to The MatrixBut their latest 8-bit film is a surprise, in that it’s as touching as it is impressive. The geek-loving animators behind 8-bit Cinema have taken on one of Studio Ghibli‘s best films, Spirited Away

The result makes us wish this were a real game we could play.

Seeing Spirited Away structured this way reminds us how good director Hayao Miyazaki is at building the action of his films. The tasks and quests our hero Chihiro has to undertake really do feel like they could be legs on a Nintendo-esque journey.
