The hype surrounding Avengers: Endgame is reaching a fever pitch, and the people over at Sony are taking notice. Following one of the most gut-wrenching scenes in Marvel’s history, people are eager for Spidey’s comeback.
With the fourth Avengers film set to be released next week, March’s Captain Marvel is seeing a pre-Endgame boost in its viewership numbers, according to Forbes. Now the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming is pushing up its release date to maximize the superhero hype.
Spider-Man: Far From Home was initially set to be released on July 5, the day after Netflix’s Stranger Things season 3 premiere. Perhaps due to the competition offered not only by Stranger Things but also a slew of other upcoming flicks, Sony shifted the date up by a few days: Far From Home is now coming on Tuesday, July 2.
It’s not much, but it certainly may change some fans’ plans for their holiday weekend. Forbes reports that Spider-Man movies have a history of premiering over long holiday weekends. Almost half of the Spidey films we’ve seen in the last two decades have been released in a similar fashion. The additional three days should give fans eager to obsess over both Peter Parker and the next strange occurrence in Hawkins, Indiana, plenty of time to enjoy both.
This summer has a packed queue of excellent kid-friendly content, too. Between The Lion King, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and Artemis Fowl, Spider-Man has plenty of competition. Most of these films will follow Spider-Man by less than a month, which means those extra three days could actually mean a lot.
