A shooter killed a student and injured a teacher this morning at Oregon’s Reynolds High School. The shooter also died.
When the shooter began firing from automatic weapons at about 8 am, Reynolds students began to tweet about the events as they unfolded.
Bruce McCain, the vice chair of the Reynolds School Board, told Oregon Live that he didn’t yet know specific details about what had happened.
“Frankly,” he said, “I’m sitting here following Twitter.”
Outlets like HLNTV and Hollywood Life caught many of the Tweets from students at the school.
The rest of Twitter was responding to the events as well. After the shooting ceased in Oregon, ThinkProgress editor-in-chief Judd Legum posted a stark reminder of the shootings that have taken place in American schools in the last 18 months since 26 people were killed in the school shooting in Newtown, Conn.

For those keeping count at home, that’s about one school shooting per week.
