It’s confirmed: That story about the r/MensRights poster who committed suicide after being trolled by r/ShitRedditSays is most likely a hoax. We spoke to the Seattle Police Department yesterday afternoon, and they confirmed the man who committed suicide was not named Jerry, and he did not have a wife or a child, as the poster at r/MensRights claimed. New York Magazine‘s Daily Intel blog also phoned up the police, and thankfully their article spread around Reddit. Why would someone make up a story like this? Actually, the r/ShitRedditSays mods probably put it best: “This world has some twisted fucks in it.” (/r/SubredditDrama)

What caused so many redditors to abandon their critical thinking skills for most of yesterday? Interestingly, another likely hoax marched to the top of r/IAmA this morning: an autobiography written by an elderly man who was supposedly a soldier in the Korean War and is now an avid gamer. It’s written in the cloyingly earnest style of a young person imitating the voice of an old man—very similar, in fact, to the phony rage comic that enamored r/fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu last year. Thankfully, it appears the mods at r/IAmA have already removed the post. (/r/IAmA)

“I am swimming in a pool of water on the moon. How will the lower gravity affect the way I can swim?” The answer is slightly disappointing but still educational. (/r/askscience)

The 17-year-old son of a Saudi Arabian polygamist reveals all at r/IAmA: ‘From a moral standpoint I do think [polygamy] is unfair and I wish it wasn’t legal in the first place. I do wish these silly social habits die off in the near future,” he writes. “But it works out very well in our case especially when a wife has her own home and open-mindedness towards the other wives.” You should really jump to the bottom of the read, however, where a muslim woman gives her own perspective on the practice. (/r/IAmA)
