Out for a morning walk in Florida’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary on Tuesday, a woman named Tina Dorschel was having a relaxing time getting close to nature. “We saw a gator, a snake, frogs, pretty birds,” she wrote.
Sounds chill. Par for the swampy course, really.
Oh, but wait, because there’s more:
Several “oh my gods” and a “holy shit” later, Dorschel had this video of a rare encounter with a Florida panther, who was probably thinking the same thing she was: This morning has been relaxing thus far, but now, holy shit.
The Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary confirmed on Facebook that the puma was probably just as scared of Dorschel as she was of it, and just wanted to go about its day without any trouble from the lady making all the noise.
Although the encounter was unusual, it’s important to remember that it took place in Florida, a state known for much bigger surprises. For some jaded observers, it didn’t really rise to the “oh my god, holy shit” level.
“Meh. I see a shit ton more cougars stumbling on a boardwalk each time I visit my buddy in Fort Myers,” wrote one commenter on Reddit.
Yeah, I’ll bet.
