It’s hard to believe, but on May 23, the smash hit game Overwatch will celebrate its first birthday.
Like other holidays and momentous occasions, Blizzard isn’t letting the big day go unnoticed. Overwatch is hosting a special in-game event to celebrate, and sneak peeks on several Overwatch Twitter accounts hinted today that the event will include three new “arena maps.”
Here’s a sneak peek at three new ARENA MAPS coming soon to our Overwatch Anniversary celebration.

A quick preview seems to show new areas in the Eichenwalde, Temple of Anubis, and Dorado maps—but even more intriguing is the term “arena maps.” It’s not something Overwatch has used before, and some are wondering if “arena” could be a new mode altogether.
In addition to the maps update, players can look forward to a free weekend May 26-29, new loot box items, and likely some new skins. Overwatch is also releasing a digital Year One Edition that features new goodies.
Overwatch fans still have a few days to wait until the anniversary event begins, but a thank-you video posted for fans will give you all of the feels and help you pass the time.
