Warning: This article contains spoilers for the Game of Thrones episode, “The Queen’s Justice.”
Olenna Tyrell, the bitingly clever matriarch of House Tyrell, was one of the most-liked characters on HBO’s Game of Thrones until her recent death in the epsiode “The Queen’s Justice.“
Diana Rigg, 79, the woman behind the wit and sarcasm that made us all love the Queen of Thorns, has played a powerful woman onscreen for the majority of her lengthy career. Photos of her from her time as Emma Peel in the 1960s Avengers series—no relation to the costumed heroes we see so often today—reveal her for the strikingly beautiful badass she has always been.

Watching ‘The Avengers’ TV show from the 60’s. Emma Peel isn’t in this episode. Just my opinion, it’s a million times better w/ Diana Rigg. pic.twitter.com/EhOrUZegan

Not only are the old photos of her a glorious look back at, in her younger years, the on-screen boss looked a lot like another popular Tyrell. The Game of Thrones really ought to be commended for their excellent work in pairing Rigg with her on-screen granddaughter, Natalie Dormer’s Margaery Tyrell. Not only do they look alike, they both command serious on-screen presence.

We will all miss Lady Olenna’s keen intelligence and savage barbs, not to mention her forward thinking views on women and politics on Game of Thrones. But we’re sure that Rigg has a more empowering and inspiring characters to bring to the screen.
