Fast food “hacks” have been a staple of TikTok in 2020.
We’ve learned numerous things about our favorite fast food joints this year, including a few insider recipes that frequent customers have perfected. Earlier this year, the hot menu item was the Chick-fil-A “nugget salad.” A combination of french fries, chicken nuggets, and various sauces may not sound great on paper, but TikTokers ate it up.
Now, another TikToker has concocted an alternate McDonald’s version of the nugget salad for those unlucky few without a Chick-fil-A in their town. Despite the McDonald’s nugget salad being nearly identical to the Chick-fil-A version, it is turning stomachs online.
TikTok user @mydailyrecipes recently shared the recipe for the McDonald’s nugget salad. It’s similar to the Chick-fil-A version, minus a few sauces. Rather than include any sriracha or varieties of ranch, the McDonald’s nugget salad simply requires basic ranch and buffalo sauces, along with an order of fries and an order of chicken nuggets. Toss the whole mess in a to-go container, shake well, and voila—you’ve got a nugget salad à la Mickey D’s.
The McDonald’s nugget salad is the most-viewed video on @mydailyrecipes’ account, but the dish is not for everyone. Many of the video’s 2,000-plus comments offer some level of criticism or disgust.
“Looks like dog food [to] me,” user Art Parilla wrote of the polarizing meal, while a slew of other comments simply read, “No.”
Most people felt the so-called “food hack” was simply a recipe for soggy fries.
“Do you want soggy fries? Because that’s how you get soggy fries,” user @insanelyfierce wrote.
“McDonald’s fries taste like soggy cardboard after 3 minutes,” another user commented. “Why would I make it worse?”
The McDonald’s nugget salad recipe is several months old, but it returned to prominence after the @asmr_cr Instagram account posted it on Dec. 20. Instagram users were just as sickened as TikTokers had been, littering the comments with their own “no’s” and green-faced, vomiting emoji.
If you’re looking to try out the nugget salad, maybe play it safe and visit your closest Chick-fil-A.
