Your dating life might be bad, but hopefully you haven’t been hospitalized over affairs of the heart.

Alexander Pieter Cirk was supposed to meet up with a woman he met online at an airport in China. When she never showed up, he waited—for 10 days.

According to CCTV, the 41-year-old Dutch man began chatting with a 26-year-old woman over a social networking app. He flew about 2,800 miles to central China’s Changsha in hopes of finally meeting this woman IRL. She was a no-show for a week and a half, but Cirk continued waiting. But after 10 days, he started to look frail and was taken to the hospital.

The woman was reportedly contacted by a Hunan television station. She apparently thought the whole thing was a joke, even after Cirk sent her pictures of his plane ticket. And she didn’t respond to his messages after he landed in China because she was getting plastic surgery.

We get it, everybody’s looking for love. But if you’re literally waiting for somebody, at least grab a sandwich or something in the meantime. And after a couple of days, maybe it’s time to call it quits.

Cirk reportedly flew back to the Netherlands on Monday.
