The fifth season of Game of Thrones premieres next month, and the cast is already hitting the interview circuit.
Arya Stark actress Maisie Williams visited Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday night to discuss how the new season will treat her character. Spoiler-avoidance tactics limited her to talking about her new costume, but we did get some news there: For the first time since season 1, Arya gets to wear something other than her long-unwashed shirt, jerkin, and pants.
Along with the costume update, Williams shared a more shocking revelation: She hasn’t read the novels that inspired Game of Thrones. She does have a good explanation for that, though.
Williams also talked about meeting the Queen, who visited the set of Game of Thrones last year. The jury’s still out on whether the Queen actually watches the show, but the visit apparently made enough of an impact that she mentioned it during her most recent Christmas speech.
Williams is easily one of the youngest Game of Thrones stars; she started filming when she was just 12 years old. If this makes you curious about how she and her family dealt with the show’s adult subject matter, you’re not alone.
Williams joked that it was basically impossible to be “old enough” to watch Game of Thrones, so watching with her family was a little awkward. Luckily, her grandmother took some advice from the Cersei Lannister playbook and mixed a stiff drink to get herself through the racier scenes.
