The trailer for his upcoming thriller, Candyman, dropped Thursday, and audiences have taken notice of the trailer’s chilling spin on Destiny Child’s R&B hit “Say My Name,” Uproxx reports. This is the second time Peele has taken a classic song and given it new life.

The trailer for 2019 hit Us featured a haunting remix of Luniz’ “I Got 5 on It,” a notable hip-hop anthem.

The first rumblings of “Say My Name” appear around the trailer’s one minute mark. The song’s iconic hook is muffled, with the synthesized beats swapped for more rigorous string instrumentals.

Some even went as far as to say they wouldn’t mind Peele making an album full of horror-bending remixes.

Peele’s Candyman is a “spiritual sequel” of the 1992 movie of the same name, which was based on the story, The Forbidden by Clive Barker. The story is about the son of a former slave who was murdered due to his romantic relationship with a white woman. According to the story, the murderous apparition, Candyman, is summoned when his name is recited five times while looking into a mirror—hence Peele’s “Say My Name” nod.

The 2020 movie “portrays an artist who moves to the location of the former Cabrini-Green projects (long since torn down in real life and in the film) and inadvertently revives both the legend and the ghostly killer,” according to Uproxx.

In 2018, Peele said he was excited to bring the well-known story back to life after it was announced he would co-write the script for the upcoming film.

“Alongside Night of the Living Dead, Candyman was a major inspiration for me as a filmmaker,” Peele said in a statement back in 2018, according to Entertainment Weekly. “We are honored to bring the next chapter in the Candyman canon to life and eager to provide new audiences with an entry point to Clive Barker’s legend.”
