Contrary to signs that have popped up at theaters showing Joker, “singles” and “guys who look like they’ve never had sex” are in fact allowed to watch the divisive Warner Bros. film.
Theaters that begun showing Joker on Oct. 3 have become the target of pranksters who are hanging up signs to make it look like theaters are enacting policies that bar specific types of people, namely single men.
“Please note: We are enforcing a strict ‘No guys who look like they’ve never had sex’ policy for tonight’s screenings of Joker due to safety precautions. We will not admit any persons who look like their balls are backed up with cum. Our staff will have to inspect your weird balls to make sure that you have unloaded ropes into another human within the last year,” one sign read at Arclight Cinemas in Los Angeles, California.
A similar but more refined sign was spotted at an AMC Theatre. “Please note: We are enforcing a strict ‘No singles’ policy for tonight’s showings of Joker due to safety precautions. We will not be admitting anyone without an additional partner.”
The signs drew so much online furor that both theaters were forced to respond.
“So sorry for any confusion! This sign was not posted by us, and this is not our policy. The sign was removed as soon as it was found by the theatre team. -Elizabeth,” the AMC Guest Services Twitter account wrote.

Arclight Cinemas is also rapidly responding to users who are pointing out its own hoax sign (if it wasn’t already obvious to be a hoax).
“Apologies for any confusion, but this document was not authorized nor posted by ArcLight. It does not reflect our operational policies and has since been removed,” the cinema’s Twitter account is writing in response.

The theater also took the additional step of posting its own sign where the hoax sign briefly resided. “Please note: A document stating we have a ‘No guys who look like they’ve never had sex’ policy for tonight’s showings of Joker was not authorized or posted by ArcLight. It does not reflect our operational policies and has since been removed. We do not require weird ball inspections and all customers are allowed to see the movie, regardless of their level of rope-unloading experience,” the sign reads, in the same format and fonts as its more sinister predecessor.

The signs come amid extra safety precautions being taken at Joker screenings across the nation out of fear that an act of violence similar to the 2012 Aurora, Colorado shooting will occur.
