Warning: This article contains spoilers for Parasite.
After Jennifer Lopez posted a video of her son Max and fiancé Alex Rodriguez in the backyard of their home, people couldn’t help but notice that it looks eerily similar to the mansion in Oscar-winning film Parasite.
In the video, Max does tricks on a hoverboard while pouring sparkling water in a cup for Rodriguez as they self-quarantine to help mitigate the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
“We can’t go out to any restaurants or anything but the service and entertainment here is pretty good,” Lopez wrote.
The similarity is too close for some.
“J-Lo lives at the parasite house??” Twitter user @BuckWithKey questioned.
Reference’s to the movie’s plot are also pretty common.
“Please check your basement,” user @niazahraaa wrote, referencing the poor people who live in the rich family’s basement in Bong Joon-ho’s film.
Really, if you haven’t seen Parasite, some of the tweets probably won’t make much sense.
“Probably there must be someone screaming your name while turning the lights on,” user @mnatuan03 wrote.
Others aptly found the video a grotesque display of her wealth. In Parasite, it is up to the less fortunate to help each other or fight each other, while the rich stay oblivious to this struggle entirely.
“Meanwhile at the hospital..nurses are working 12 hours/day 6xwk while making 1/1000 of JLo’s income. Something is wrong!” Twitter user @ArnaldoRQuione1 wrote. “And BTW, I love JLo but the optics are terrible.
Reminds me of the movie Parasite.”
