Home Free, an indie open-world game about a lost dog trying to find his way in the city has been fully funded on Kickstarter in less than five days.
Open-world game franchises like Grand Theft Auto and Crackdown and Just Cause are usually concerned with finding ways of causing chaos and destruction, which makes Home Free a welcome addition to the genre. In Home Free you play as a dog, and the emergent gameplay is about learning how to survive.
Developer Kevin Cancienne in his Kickstarter campaign states that Home Free will have action-RPG elements built around developing survival skills. Home Free will also take place in procedurally generated cities, which means a fresh challenge whenever you want to start the game again from scratch.
The Dog Park minigame that Cancienne developed for the 2014 No Quarter game exhibition at NYU will come bundled with Home Free when the game is released. It gives you a glimpse at what Home Free will look like.
Cancienne anticipates a fall 2016 release for Home Free on Mac and PC.
