If you’ve been looking for something new to do in Grand Theft Auto Online, you won’t have to wait long. Developer Rockstar Games will release The Doomsday Heist for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on Dec. 12.
Grand Theft Auto Online is the massive online mode in Grand Theft Auto V. In it, you create a digital avatar who can buy a house, piece together fashionable outfits, collect cars, compete in races—and paint the streets red with the digital blood of online opponents. But it’s all in good fun, as GTA Online never takes itself too seriously.
Of all the activities you can do in the game, heists are far and away the biggest and most complex. Heists are groups of missions that require players to work together to plan and execute massive organized crimes. Which might explain why it’s been two years since Rockstar last released a heist.
Judging by the trailer, The Doomsday Heist looks like the silliest and most ambitious one yet. According to Rockstar’s press release:
As apocalyptic threats mount from enemies unknown, you and your criminal crew are enlisted to un-tangle mysteries and eradicate threats spanning from the bustling streets of downtown Los Santos to the ocean floor and all the way to the inner depths of Mount Chiliad in an epic new online adventure.
There’s a lot going on in the trailer, including an AI named Clifford, jetpack-strapped criminals, and cars that can take flight and go underwater. Perhaps most interesting is the bit about entering Mount Chiliad. Players have spent years trying to decipher the glyphs and symbols found on the mountain. Maybe The Doomsday Heist will finally solve the mystery.
