U.S. citizens have clung to a few high-profile leaders during this coronavirus crisis. They fawn over briefings from Dr. Anthony Fauci. Soundbites from New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and California Gov. Gavin Newsom are used on TikTok, and countless memes have been made professing love for these leaders.
But now, Fauci merch exists. And not just any type of Fauci merch, Fauci underwear, to be specific.
Canava, a Los Angeles-based clothing brand, is making Fauci, Cuomo, and Newsom panties for the leaders’ biggest fans. Canava originally released Cuomo underwear in April, and the demand for Fauci and Newsom was so high they expanded the merch line.
Canava is a carbon-neutral, women-owned, sustainable business and is matching proceeds from the underwear to donate to healthcare workers. Donations will go to the officials’ respective states, New York for Cuomo and Fauci and California for Newsom.
“When you buy any of these limited edition products, we will be matching dollar for dollar your purchase with an equal product donation to healthcare workers in NYC (NYC, Cuomo & Fauci) or California (Newsom),” Canava wrote on Instagram. “We really want them to be able to rest, recharge, and relax as much as possible when they get home.”
The limited edition product line also includes “NYC” merch, and proceeds will also be donated.
Social media users had strong reactions to the underwear. While some thought it was a funny way to raise money for charity, others thought it was just too cringe.
People even began memeing the panties. Some are riffing on the underwear by making their own Biden and Epstein ones.
All the limited edition underwear is $22 and the NYC shirts range from $42 to $72 on canava.co.
