The elephant in the room has no regard for the boundaries of water designated for humans, even if we’d never drink it ourselves.
The Elephant Sands Lodge in Botswana provides accessible, non-salty water for nearby elephants to drink, but the size of the water hole prevents all of them from drinking at once. Because they have to wait, some of the smaller elephants will go across rocks that are supposed to keep them out of certain areas to get any water they can from the nearby showers and toilets. They’re not picky at all.
And if you’re in there doing your business already? Good luck sharing that space with an elephant trunk.
