The Beatles classic “Eleanor Rigby” has been turned into a catchy, modern-day meme.
The meme remixes three original verses from the 1966 song.
“Eleanor Rigby
Picks up the rice in the church where a wedding has been
Lives in a dream.”
It generally starts with “[to the tune of Eleanor Rigby]” and then adds in a modern-day remix to the three original verses.
“[to the tune of eleanor rigby]
hillary clinton
killed jeffrey epstein, ensured it was ruled suicide
the coroner lied,” Twitter user @mnurkic wrote.
See? Modern.
[to the tune of eleanor rigby]

There was even a group effort from one batch of Twitter users who couldn’t help but write about Martin Scorsese’s take on Marvel films not being “cinema.”
“[to the tune of Eleanor Rigby]
Martin Scorsese,” Twitter user @whirringblender wrote.
“…Picks up popcorn in a theater where Marvel has been…” another added.
“… a film he’s not seen…” a last ended it.

This isn’t the first time the “Eleanor Rigby” meme has made its rounds on social media; real memers remember that it first went viral in 2016. The Poke reported that Twitter account @KestrelPi created the meme.
Now that it’s back in 2019, users are taking it a step further. There’s an Eleanor Rigby bot that uses classic literature to remix the verses.
“for a long distance
but if thou hast a mind to do somewhat in that way
stand forth straightway
– Howard Pyle, ‘The Adventures of Robin Hood,’” the account, @EleanorRigbyBot, tweeted.
EleanorRigbyBot’s take on the meme features the likes of Plato, Leo Tolstoi, Jane Austen, and William Shakespeare.

That is quite true
– Plato, “Death of Socrates: Phaedo”
Good luck getting this earworm out of your head.
