Lockdown lipsync is becoming a genre unto itself, and Teen Wolf star Dylan O’Brien just upped the ante by reenacting an iconic scene from The Social Network. This idea sounds like a “huh, what?” kind of deal until you actually watch it, at which point you realize: Oh right, this is unexpectedly brilliant. The Social Network really has stood the test of time.
O’Brien (whose comedic talents were sadly underutilized in his big Hollywood break The Maze Runner) filmed the scene with actress Sarah Ramos, with Ramos playing Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg) and Sean Parker (Justin Timberlake), while O’Brien plays Eduardo Saverin (Andrew Garfield). If you’ve seen the movie, you’ll remember the scene: the one where Eduardo has a breakdown over being removed from Facebook’s masthead.
The clip is actually part of a series hosted by Ramos, where she reenacts famous movie scenes. This one just happened to go viral because a) it’s especially great, and b) Dylan O’Brien has a fandom. You can find the rest of the series on Ramos’ Instagram page.
Oh, and O’Brien’s Eduardo Saverin impression has now officially been endorsed by the scene’s original star, Andrew Garfield. In a text to Lin Manuel Miranda, Garfield said, “If I had Twitter I’d let him know he MURDERED it.”
