It wasn’t a bloodthirsty alien monster that put Duke Nukem co-creator George Broussard in the hospital last week—but the stroke that did was every bit as scary. Just not so scary that he couldn’t tweet while it was happening.

“Holy shit, man, call an ambulance!” one follower replied; “…good …luck?” wrote a slightly more puzzled party. Soon enough, Broussard got the care he needed. The good news? It was a “mild” cerebral event, and his thumbs appear to work just fine.
Headed for MRI. Blood drawn. Poked and prodded. Speech still slurred. Fine in ll other areas. Scared.

Saw neurologist. Definitely had mild stroke. Speech bad but will recover. Will be admitted to hospital for 2-3 days for tests now. Sucks

Broussard continued to post updates on his condition, noting when he was no longer “talking like Sylvester Stallone,” alluding to a “small clot,” and thanking his girlfriend—as well as fans—for helping him through the frightening ordeal.
It was just a matter of time, though, before a flash of the gritty, action-hero humor that makes Broussard’s video game franchise such a beloved phenomenon shone through.
Dear Grim Reaper. Fuck you.

Spoken like Duke himself. We’ll be visiting a strip club in your honor, buddy.
