Hurricane Matthew has killed hundreds of people, and more carnage is predicted as it makes its way up the east coast of the United States. For those living outside of its projected path, it can be difficult to visualize the storm’s devastation.
Sometimes the best metrics come from the familiar. That’s why FEMA has a Waffle House Index. Checking in with the beloved 24-hour diner provides a whole lot of information about a storm’s day-to-day impact.
All Waffle House restaurants on 1-95 between Titusville, FL and Fort Pierce, FL are closed. Stay safe Waffle Nation! #HurricaneMatthew

This is… not good. And neither is the news that Disney World is shuttering its doors for just the fourth time in its four and a half decade existence. As HelloGiggles reports, the theme park, its Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Epcot will be closed starting on Friday at 5pm.
Fans who made their way to the parks for some last-minute enjoyment posted photos of a deserted Disney World, showing the calm before a storm that could cause untold damage to the attraction, to say nothing of the havoc it will wreck for local homeowners.
