Disney’s preview of the Star Wars theme parks that are under construction at Disneyland and Walt Disney World has fans drooling with anticipation.
First announced in 2015, the attraction dubbed “Star Wars Land” has a long way to go until it’s open to the public in 2019. And although Disney has released plenty of concept art and a look at the construction of AT-ATs, it now revealed a detailed model that will be on display at D23 throughout the weekend.
“This is the most ambitious land we’ve built to date,” Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, said, according to a report from Bloomberg.
The model was previewed Thursday night, and attendees will be able to view it during D23. In a blog post, Disney Parks revealed that the lands will “transport guests to a never-before-seen planet, a remote trading port, and one of the last stops before the Wild Space.”
Even more exciting, a connected Star Wars hotel will be immersive, right down to each guest getting a storyline in the Star Wars-themed adventure. You don’t just visit in Star Wars Land—you live Star Wars Land. Even the windows will look out into “space.” It’ll be like spending the weekend at a medieval fair—only it’s Star Wars, not some junky hamlet where the swords are made of metal.
All of the employees for the attraction will similarly be in costume as characters in the Star Wars universe.
“It’s unlike anything that exists today,”Chapek told the Disney Parks Blog. “From the second you arrive, you will become a part of a Star Wars story! You’ll immediately become a citizen of the galaxy and experience all that entails, including dressing up in the proper attire. Once you leave Earth, you will discover a starship alive with characters, stories, and adventures that unfold all around you. It is 100% immersive, and the story will touch every single minute of your day, and it will culminate in a unique journey for every person who visits.”
For those of us who didn’t attend D23, Disney released photos and video, which only begin to capture the amount of detail the full parks plan to cover.

There are some familiar sights to any fan, like the Millennium Falcon, which will be one of two rides planned for the park. Fans will be able to control the Millennium Falcon on a secret mission while another ride transports you to a fight between the First Order and the Resistance.
