Disney Nintendo Show

Nintendo and Disney are two of the biggest corporations on the planet, so it only makes sense that when they collide they produce something like a television show. Both companies are partnering to create a Nintendo Switch-focused family game show called Nintendo Switch Family Showdown.

Four families will be competing against one another using a Nintendo Switch game console. The show will feature such games as Mario Odyssey, Mario Tennis Aces, or Just Dance 2018. Families will be performing specific tasks in each game, like searching for collectibles in Mario Odyssey, winning a match in Mario Tennis Aces, or performing a dance off in, you guessed it, Just Dance 2018.

The show is scheduled to premiere this summer on both Disney XD and the Disney Channel. It will also be streamed on Disney’s streaming service, DisneyNOW.

Nintendo Switch Family Showdown is yet another example of Nintendo looking to secure an even bigger portion of the video game market. As of May, the Switch has sold over 17 million units, increasing Nintendo’s profit by 500 percent. Nintendo has stated that it plans to sell an additional 20 million Switch consoles.

It might not match the Wii’s incredible numbers (over 100 million units sold worldwide), but it doesn’t need to.

In a recent investor Q&A, outgoing Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima said, “The benchmark is not whether Nintendo Switch sales can surpass total Wii sales, but rather how we adapt and respond to changes in the market and strive to continue selling Nintendo Switch as long as possible.”

Thanks to its comparatively low price ($300) and Nintendo’s gradually growing success with indie titles, the Switch has little reason not to continue its success. Nintendo debuted over 25 minutes of footage from its upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, detailing over 10,000 changes the company has made to its best-selling fighter game.
