The second Death Note trailer gives us a better look at Netflix‘s controversial live-action adaptation, starring Nat Wolff as the teen vigilante Light Turner.
After a brief introduction in the first teaser, this trailer emphasizes Light’s morally ambiguous nature. He uses a magic notebook called the Death Note to kill criminals, adopting a vigiliante persona known as “Kira,” and dividing public opinion about the morality of his murders.

We also get our first good look at Get Out‘s LaKeith Stanfield as L, the mysterious detective who tries to find and capture Kira. Willem Dafoe voices Ryuk the Shinigami (death spirit), whose CGI appearance looks pretty close to the original anime.
There’s a definite Hot Topic mall goth vibe to this trailer, although that’s arguably appropriate to the source material. Death Note arrives on Netflix on Aug. 25.
