In what must be reassuring news for Marvel fans and Chris Hemsworth fans alike, the 34-year-old actor said he’s interested in continuing in his role as Thor. Although his contract is finished following the filming of the fourth Avengers movie. Hemsworth made it clear to IGN on Friday that he’s eager to return to the role and to continue his tenure in the Marvel extended cinematic universe.
“I’ve just, literally two days ago, finished Avengers 4 and that’s my contract—my preexisting contract is done now, so it’s kind of like, ‘Wow, that’s it,’” Hemsworth told IGN. “Two or three films ago I was like, ‘OK, a couple more.’ I was enjoying it but I was like… I felt a little restricted.”

“And after this last experience with [director] Taika [Waititi], and actually these last two Avengers, I feel like we’ve reinvented the character a number of times—even in these next two, he evolves again, and you don’t get that opportunity often in a franchise,” he said. “So I definitely feel a renewed sense of excitement and enthusiasm, and more so than ever, I think.”
This musing on Hemsworth’s part could have some implications for the upcoming Avengers films because obviously, for him to be interested in returning to the role, that would require the character to survive the events of the movie he just wrapped, as well as Avengers: Infinity War, which is coming out later this year. The fourth Avengers film is currently without an official title, but it’s slated for release in 2019.
