Some ‘Age of Ultron’ DVD and Blu-ray boxes nixed Black Widow and Hawkeye

Here we go again.

Black Widow is already excluded from most of Marvel’s merchandise (and replaced in one of her own scenes) to the point where Marvel’s own actors are asking #WheresNatasha, but now she’s even missing from some variations of the Age of Ultron DVD and Blu-ray covers.

Although the art for the Blu-ray and DVD have been out for some time now, it was only recently that writer and author Sam Maggs noticed that some variations of the cover art dropped the ball on two members of the Avengers.

Hawkeye, who has a much bigger role in Age of Ultron and has been called the “heart of the movie,” is notably absent from the covers featuring Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk, and Ultron himself with the Blu-ray version. But once again, so is Black Widow, who also had a big character arc throughout the film. Both of them arguably had much more to do than Thor’s random dream bath subplot.

Two versions of the Age Ultron movie boxes don’t feature Black Widow or Hawkeye in Amazon’s U.K. store while only the DVD version in the U.S. doesn’t have the characters on the cover.

However, the erasure of Black Widow and Hawkeye doesn’t happen in every instance of the cover. The regular Blu-ray in the U.K. has the whole gang together again while both U.S. Blu-ray covers and the Instant Video feature the Avengers, Ultron, and even Nick Fury.

For some Marvel fans, it’s metaphorically kicking them down yet again and erasing Black Widow from her own story and merchandise while Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has to continually defend the decision not to give Black Widow her own movie—something fans have been asking him for for years.

We’re told that Black Widow will finally get proper merchandise for Captain America: Civil War, but with the addition of the newest Spider-Man film, which will be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, to Sony’s roster, we won’t get a female-led superhero movie—Captain Marvel—until the end of 2018.
