This New Yorker unwittingly hosted an orgy, thanks to Airbnb

A comedian who rented his New York apartment out through Airbnb to a man who claimed he had family coming to town actually came home to a wild orgy filled with “Big Beautiful Women.”

31-year-old Ari Teman told the New York Post this weekend that he left the keys to his apartment with 32-year-old David Carter Friday night and stepped out for a quick bite to eat before leaving town for the weekend. Carter had rented Teman’s place under the auspices of accommodating family in town for a wedding. When Teman came back to the apartment to get his luggage, he learned that Carter’s “family” was anything but.

“This was just so bizarre,” Teman explained to the Post. “The worst part of the Internet right there was in my apartment.”

He’s talking about the orgy Carter had orchestrated in Teman’s abode, one that featured a number of “Big Beautiful Women,” a common term used to describe a certain type of female in places like singles listings and porn sites. Though he’d only been gone for a couple hours, enough activity had occurred that management was already in the process of shutting the party down. Tweets had been sent out advertising an all-night party at his address, and Teman found a series of damages to his apartment and possessions, including a couch that’d been overturned.

“There were all sorts of people walking out of my apartment and people coming in from the back yard,” he said. “It was a huge mess.”

Though reported to have been rather beat up about the whole thing while standing in the lobby afterwards, Carter, who holds a verified account on the rental site as well as three positive reviews, told the Post that he believes Teman overreacted.

“I had six people, friends and family,” he said. “He is making a big to-do.”

Airbnb responded quickly to the issue, providing Teman with a new set of locks on his apartment, $23,817, and a weeklong stay in a hotel in New York, Gawker reports.

That wad of cash and access to a hotel will likely come in handy, since Teman says he’s been evicted. “I enjoy a ‘festival’ as much as the next fellow, but this is a family building and some people don’t have their neighbor’s worldly possessions tossed into a pile into the common area while a group of strangers form a pile to have their private areas tossed,” he wrote on his Tumblrdearairbnb.tumblr.com, a site presumably launched after the incident. “As such, I’m being evicted.”

He added that “the stress and fear that a large band of ‘XXX Freak Fest’ individuals have my address and keys to my home is unreal.”

The company issued a statement to Gawker on Sunday, saying “Over 11 million guests have had a safe and positive experience on Airbnb and problems for hosts and guests are incredibly rare, but when they happen, we try to help make things right. We were appalled when we learned about this incident and we took immediate action to help this host. The individual who rented this space has been permanently removed from our site.

“In the days ahead, we’ll continue to work with the host to assist him with his additional needs.”
