The internet is abuzz over yet more proof that Adam Sandler is a genuinely down-to-earth dude. A video of the 54-year-old actor playing a pickup basketball game went viral over the weekend, serving as a timely reminder that the Sandman is truly an American icon.
Sandler has been enjoying virality for several weeks now, thanks to his straightforward, genuine nature. A few weeks ago, he went viral for the simple act of visiting an IHOP on a busy day. When he left without making a fuss over the wait time, the internet melted in collective celebration over his lack of entitlement.
His latest viral moment is just as pure.
Adam Sandler plays pickup basketball
Anthony Puccio, who reports on the NBA for Front Office Sports, shared a pair of videos on Sunday. In the first, Sandler—dressed in a pair of shorts that could likely fit three extra people—can be seen shredding the court. Unfortunately, that flawless energy doesn’t quite reach his teammates. Both videos show a nearly perfect pass from Sandler result in sour shots, devastating fans and prompting virulent criticism of his teammates.
People pleaded with the Long Island pickup basketball community to find some better teammates for Sandler’s next game. Or at least someone who can knock a simple 3-pointer in perhaps the most impacting pickup game of their lives.
“One chance to score off an Adam Sandler pass in your life and it hits nothing but backboard,” one commenter wrote. “Devastating.”
Viewers agreed across the board, with one noting that he’d be “damned if I fuck up Adam Sandler’s dime.”
Everyone else was too enthralled by Sandler’s impressively baggy attire to concern themselves with the score of the basketball game. His peach-colored top and baggy shorts quickly earned a thorough meme treatment.
The outfit is anything but odd on Sandler, who is often seen out and about in casual, baggy attire. That didn’t stop commenters from poking fun, of course, with one noting that “Adam Sandler is never completely dressed for the activity he’s doing.”
