Instagram’s Web view might play second fiddle to the app proper, but the aesthetes behind Instagram are still keen on keeping design fresh across the board. In an update announced today on Facebook, Instagram’s Web viewer gets a bit of a visual overhaul and the result is every bit as clean and photo-centric as you might expect.
As you can see above and below, the new design features a clean, modern look with larger images and less clutter.
Instagram has been mobile-first since day one, soaring on the popularity of its app. Even after adding a way to view images in a normal desktop web browser back in late 2012, Instagram never veered away from its mobile focus. Meanwhile, Instagram’s adoptive parent company has shoehorned the sprawling Facebook desktop experience into a mobile app to far more mixed results.
Tuesday’s Instagram update doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it’s possible the company might experiment with its Web view before translating a redesign over into its decidedly higher-stakes mobile app. We’ll have to wait, refresh, and see.
