When you were a kid, sitting right in front of the TV with the Nintendo Entertainment System controller in your hands wasn’t just fine—it was the right thing to do.
As adults, even ones who love retro systems, we have other problems with sitting on the floor playing video games, like back pain. But thanks to the good folks at 8BitDo and Analogue, that’s no longer a problem when we want to do a good Super Mario Bros. speedrun.
The two companies joined forces to create the Retro Receiver, a handy Bluetooth adapter that plugs right into an NES controller port. If you have an aftermarket console, that’s cool, too.
You can use your PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 controllers with it, too, along with any gamepad manufactured by 8BitDo. However, it only seems right to use the NES ones, and there’s even a rounded version for those of you who hated the pokey little corners of the original controller.
You can score one of these adapters for $19.99 at Play-Asia, but as soon as it arrives, expect to spend the rest of the weekend sinking steadily deeper into your sofa. Protip: Start with Super Mario 3.
