Jurassic World‘s viral marketing campaign is working hard to advertise something called the Masrani Global Corporation. But what, exactly, does that mean?
The film’s first viral video was posted back in December, an ad for Isla Nublar’s Jurassic Hilton resort. So far, so typical. But the next one was an infomercial about a businessman named Simon Masrani, the CEO of Masrani Global.
Masrani Global is a tech company, but its website makes it pretty clear why it’s relevant to Jurassic World: Simon Masrani acquired International Genetic Technologies (InGen) after the death of Dr. John Hammond. If that wasn’t suspicious enough already, the Masrani website throws in a few photos of dinosaur eggs and insects caught in amber. They’re evidently the corporate future of Jurassic Park, and they’re a lot less cuddly than benevolent old scientist John Hammond.
There’s also a second, longer video giving us some more background information about Masrani’s business interests.
Masrani Global is the owner of Jurassic World, but these ads make it clear that the resort is just one of many Masrani projects. The website hints at genetic experiments beyond just the creation of dinosaurs, complete with this ominous message from the CEO: “Using InGen technology, combined with Masrani innovation, the world is ours to make and enjoy.” Yes, we’re sure that plan will go swimmingly.
There’s no one on Jurassic World‘s IMDb page named Masrani, so we’re probably not going to meet the CEO introduced in this viral marketing campaign. However, it’s safe to assume that Masrani Global will play a major role in the movie.
