A customer got stuck attempting to remove the security tag on a clothing item at self-checkout.
In a viral TikTok video, user Julia Belza (@juliabelzaa) was captured struggling at the self-checkout of a major retailer. “Pov you go shopping but end up stuck at the self check out trying to remove the tags,” reads the video’s text overlay.
The TikToker is using the store’s tag remover while in the check out lane. Eventually, she was able to unfasten the alarm from her item. She then grabbed her receipt and left with her clothes. “Bershka can pay my bills for this,” Julia wrote in the caption.
Bershka is the more affordable sister store to Zara that is popular among young shoppers. The store uses RFID (radio frequency identity) technology to make it easier for customers to pay for items and avoid the hassle of waiting on cashier lines. One woman dedicated an entire blog post to reviewing Zara’s self-checkout tech. She noted that the kiosk automatically recognizes most of the items a customer rests on it, without the need for scanning tags. The reviewer noted payment for her clothes was “effortless” as was removing the security tags from them.
Nonetheless, the video captures the difficulty some shoppers experience when trying to remove alarms from the store’s clothing.

Though the clip only five seconds long, it still appears to have struck a cord with many viewers. It has amassed more than 833,000 views since Nov. 18.
“This always happens when we go shopping,” one user wrote, tagging friends in the comment.
“I can never even remove the tags,” user Harriet1494 commented.
However, it appears everyone does not agree the self-checkout process is that difficult.
“There’s instructions on the screen,” one user said.
