The modified UEFA Champions League tournament resumes on August 12th, with all four quarterfinals played as a one-game knockout in Lisbon. Barcelona and Bayern Munich are the only two remaining clubs to have won a European Cup, each with five to their name. Coincidentally, the two face off in the quarterfinal stage on August 14th.

The Round of 16 saw three just-crowned domestic league champions exit: 2018-19 Champions League and 2019-20 Premier League champs Liverpool, perennial Serie A winners Juventus, and La Liga victors Real Madrid.

The quarterfinals start off with PSG, one of the favorites in the reshuffled tournament, against Atalanta, the Italian team that’s been a revelation in getting this far. PSG may be without star Kylian Mbappe for this match, but teammate Neymar will certainly be looking to prove his mettle in leading the French champs.

CBS All Access

Paramount+ is the network’s official entry into the streaming arena, and set the tone for other major networks launching their own streaming services. (Looking at you, Peacock.) CBS All Access anchors itself in the vast CBS show library, going into TV history as well as relying on the Star Trek series and the crime dramas that help define it today. It also has a selection of movies tied to Paramount’s ownership by CBS parent Viacom. It’s also a destination for live events like the annual Grammy Awards, and it’s becoming a destination for live sports fans. The 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup and a new role as Champions League soccer host makes it a legitimate player in sports programming.

PSG vs. Atalanta: Recent form, summary of last match, odds, starting lineups

PSG has reached the UCL quarterfinal, a feat which had not yet been accomplished in the time Neymar has been in Paris. The Parisians may have some very tough competition in an attacking Atalanta team. Yet, they’re on the side of the bracket with three other teams who have not won this competition.

Consider the other side of the bracket. It includes five-time winners Barcelona and Bayern Munich, as well as English juggernaut Manchester City. The truncated format makes this the best opportunity a talent-heavy PSG has to become champions since Qatar Sports Investments acquired the team in 2011.

Atalanta will seek to continue its Cinderella story, playing in its first Champions League. Prior to this season, Atalanta had six appearances in second-tier European tournaments over more than 50 years. Even if Atalanta crashes out here, it’s coming back to UCL next year by virtue of a solid Serie A finish.

Atalanta has a thrilling, aggressive style of play which got the club 98 goals in Serie A this season, 17 more than the next closest club. In a 90-minute matchup on a neutral field, don’t expect Atalanta and manager Gian Piero Gasperini to change how they’ve played. Look for this to be a high-scoring affair no matter what the result.

Odds

According to BetMGM, as of August 11:

  • PSG: -105 (bet $105 to win $100)
  • Atalanta: +235 (bet $100 to win $235)
  • Draw (through 90 minutes): +290
