It’s no secret that hotel prices in Austin, Texas, skyrocket as SXSW approaches. The closer you want to be to the action, the more money you’re going to spend. Even so, $1,000 dollars a night seems pricey, especially considering that the festival is still more than a month and a half away.
It also seems steep considering the accommodations themselves:
“This quaint fort sleeps 2 fairly comfortably. It is just 10 minutes from downtown. Complete with wifi,” reads this parody ad on Craigslist, but depending on how far you are from the router, your reception could be spotty. Not a good thing when you’re attending one of the nation’s premier technology conferences—though at least street parking is available.
But if we’re being honest, it’s not even that nice of a cardboard fort. The owner could have at least pulled up the weeds in the second bedroom (we assume the master bedroom is the one with cardboard flooring).
If you have you have your heart set on sleeping here, we’d recommend at least trying to talk them down to $850. It’s probably best to message them soon though—prices are probably going to jump in February.
