Your wedding day is supposed to be the happiest day of your life, with loved ones surrounding you as your partner as you declare your commitment to one another. A day you’ve worked so hard for so long to make perfect. It’s only natural to want to share the highlights of the occasion with those dearest to you, no matter where they may be.
But if your first wife spots the snaps of the big day on Facebook, things might not be so rosy. Especially if you’re still married to her.
Anne-Marie Sim married Brian Frain, of Cleethorpes, England, after a two-month romance in 1999, before separating. Sim was looking to remarry and so hired investigators to track down the 36-year-old so she could get a divorce.
While investigating by herself, Sim found Facebook photos of Frain’s 2009 wedding to Louise Meredith, which occurred in the same register office as her own wedding to the bigamist.
Frain, according to the prosecutor, assumed he was not married to Sim “due to the amount of time that had passed” and neither took legal advice nor informed the register office.
Meredith said she believed she was his first wife and they are no longer together. Frain claimed Meredith knew he had been married before and a trial will be held next month to determine whether he deceived her.
Frain pled guilty to one count of bigamy and will be sentenced at a later date.
