We all knew a tweet about the 90th Academy Awards was coming from President Donald Trump. During the awards ceremony on Sunday, host Jimmy Kimmel made jokes about both Trump and Vice President Mike Pence. Kimmel also mentioned the Parkland shooting that left 17 people dead last month and the #NeverAgain movement.
On Tuesday, Trump predictably criticized the Oscars by mentioning its low ratings in a tweet that didn’t sound very presidential: “Lowest rated Oscars in HISTORY. Problem is, we don’t have Stars anymore – except your President (just kidding, of course)!”

Trump, as you may remember, was the host of The Apprentice before he became our president. The show never won an Emmy. Last fall, Trump bitterly tweeted about the low ratings of that award show, too:

His new tweet about the Oscars got a lot of mixed reactions on Twitter. Some people thought it sounded like someone else wrote it.

If Trump did actually tweet this, instead of a White House staffer, it’s clear it was a joke. But many people had to do a double take to make sure that it actually came from Trump’s verified account. It sort of reads like a parody of Trump’s tweets.

Trump did not congratulate the winners of this year’s Oscars. Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water won the night’s top awards, taking home best director and best picture.
