“This is my son. He loves animals. He loves clean air. He loves clean water,” Mink said to Pruitt. “Meanwhile, you’re slashing strong fuel standards for cars and trucks for the benefit of big corporations. We deserve to have somebody at the EPA who actually does protect our environment, somebody who believes in climate change and takes it seriously for the benefit of all of us, including our children. I would urge you to resign before your scandals push you out.”

Although the EPA Director had been mired in scandal after scandal, and his resignation or firing had long been speculated about, Pruitt mentioned the protests in his resignation letter, saying they took a toll on his family: “The unrelenting attacks on me personally, my family, are unprecedented and have taken a sizable toll on all us.”

In her interview with the Huffington Post, Mink also praised the actions of reporters who’d unearthed much of Pruitt’s wrongdoings: “I think that I was one little tiny piece of so many people working to get Scott Pruitt out of office. There’s been so much investigative journalism, action from so many activists and then me, a pissed-off mom.”
