Family welcomes Mike Pence to Aspen with ‘Make America Gay Again’ banner

This is the kind of ‘MAGA’ that Mike Pence needs in his life.

Vice President Mike Pence

Has your next door neighbor been a bit of a Grinch or a Scrooge toward people in the LGBTQ community?

Does he have a history of pushing anti-gay legislation, has he expressed wanting to repeal equal rights for LGBTQ people, or have people joked him about wanting to “hang” people in the community?

Is he also the vice president of the United States, whose kitschy campaign slogan is easily appropriated to advocate for the values of those underrepresented across the United States?

Perhaps it’s not too late in the year to warm that ol’ coal heart with a nonchalant season’s greeting, such as making the pillar between your homes a billboard for gay pride! One Aspen, Colorado, family is asking Vice President Mike Pence to “Make America Gay Again” by doing just that.

According to the Aspen Times, Pence, his wife Karen, and their family are staying at a home near the city and are scheduled to leave on Monday. But during his stay, Pence’s neighbors have given the vice president a warm welcome by hanging a rainbow-striped “Make America Gay Again” flag on the stone pillar situated between the two homes, at the end of the two driveways.

The two daughters of the neighboring family and a girlfriend of one of the women hung the flag up sometime Wednesday or Thursday. The girlfriend, Shannon Slade, told the Times that they hung the flag with full support from the women’s parents.

When Secret Service told the family that they wouldn’t stop them from posting the flag, they later brought the agents chili and corn muffins.

Apparently, this isn’t the first time Aspenites have tried to pass along messages to powerful men in politics. In the 1990s, an “intrepid daredevil” scaled a spruce tree to hang up a banner that read “Inhale To The Chief” when former President Bill Clinton was in town.

Perhaps Pence will give that flag some thought while strolling into the new year.
