Rep. Joe Kennedy (D-Mass.), who gave the Democratic rebuttal to President Donald Trump’s first State of the Union address, offered Stacey Abrams some advice for her upcoming rebuttal next week: “misplace your chapstick.”
The tongue-and-cheek response from Kennedy came after it was announced that the Georgia Democrat, who lost one of the most-watched gubernatorial races during the 2018 midterm elections, would deliver the official Democratic response to Trump’s upcoming speech.
The chapstick joke from Kennedy seems to be in response to numerous people who mocked the glossy-look of his lips during his rebuttal last year.
“A little advice for @staceyabrams as she prepares our Democratic rebuttal: -Be yourself, you’ll crush it -He’ll talk longer than you expect so keep snacks handy -Be the fighter we know you are -Misplace your chapstick -You have millions of Americans standing with you Good luck!” Kennedy wrote on Twitter on Tuesday evening.

-Be yourself, you’ll crush it
-He’ll talk longer than you expect so keep snacks handy
-Be the fighter we know you are
-Misplace your chapstick
-You have millions of Americans standing with you
Good luck!
However, this isn’t the first time the Massachusetts lawmaker poked fun at the criticism. Following his speech, he told Good Morning America that he went “light on the chapstick” before the interview.
Many people found the self-deprecating joke humorous.

Ha. 😂
Dems are making Twitter great again. The @AOC seminar must have been fire. https://t.co/6chGOrdEr5
Before Kennedy’s chapstick moment, there was Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R-Fla.) water drinking, which also captivated the internet.
Trump’s State of the Union speech and Abrams’ rebuttal are scheduled for Feb. 5.
