Following last night’s bombings of facilities housing American troops in Iraq, fans of Hillary Clinton have tweeted their displeasure over the escalation of tensions with Iran.

Under the hashtag #ivotedforHillaryClinton, they argued that they ought to not be blamed for any possible war because they voted for Clinton for president in 2016.

Now Clinton herself has added her voice to the chorus.

Naturally, Clinton’s tweet lured her many, many haters out into the light. More than one posted a link to a 2008 Reuters article headlined, “Clinton says U.S. could ‘totally obliterate’ Iran,” which is somewhat misleading. That piece covers her statement that the U.S. could obliterate Iran if it initiated a nuclear attack on Israel.

“I’m so glad I didn’t vote for Hillary Clinton!!” said one Trump supporter in response to Clinton’s tweet.

Comments from Clinton’s fans were also prominent in the thread.

“I was so damn proud to vote for you,” @daralynn13 tweeted. “My Mom cried while voting because she never thought she would be able to vote for a woman for President.”

“Most of us voted for Hillary Clinton,” @GIowing0rb said, pointing out that Clinton beat Donald Trump by 3 million votes in 2016.

The comment thread predictably became an excuse to argue.

By the time Clinton used the hashtag, thousands had already done so. Fear, anger, and resentment over the conflict with Iran, which many blame squarely on President Donald Trump, were common among Clinton supporters who used it.

Of course, no Clinton hashtag would be complete without some trolling by the likes of InfoWars contributors and others, many of whom repeated the false claim that she threatened to use nuclear weapons on Iran without provocation.

But the hashtag mostly inspired people to state their belief that Clinton would’ve made a much better president than Trump.

No Americans or Iraqis were killed in last night’s bombings, which were carried out as retaliation for the assassination of Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani.

In an address to the nation this morning, NBC reports that Trump said Iran “appears to be standing down” and promised new economic sanctions against them.
