Have you ever had to crash on your buddy’s couch? Well, President Donald Trump is in a similar situation—except we’re pretty sure his stay will be more lavish than a futon.
Anybody who’s ever visited another country knows that planning is key and hotel booking is a must. We guess the White House didn’t get that memo since Trump was left without a luxury hotel to choose from during his trip to Europe.
White House officials seem to have waited on booking a room for Trump during this year’s G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany. The summit, which takes place July 7-8, is a meeting between 20 of the most powerful countries. With the date being set since February, it’s unclear how America’s commander-in-chief got left without a room.
The G20 reportedly requires 9,000 rooms for leaders and their staff. Alas, in an ironic twist of events, the man known for his own luxury hotel line seems to not have anywhere to stay in the city. Originally, the White House planned to book Trump a room at the Four Seasons. The local Newspaper Hamburger Abendblatt reported that the hotel had to turn the president away because they were already at max capacity. BuzzFeed reported that Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and his 156 guests will be staying at the exact hotel. Even their golden escalators and camels were found shelter before Trump. With a symbolic “no vacancy” sign seeming to light up wherever the White House looked, they scrambled to find him a room.
Trump is currently finishing up his two-day visit in Poland before heading to Germany. With the summit approaching, the Associated Press reports, Trump will be staying at the Hamburg Senate guest house.
Yes, Coldplay, Shakira, and other celebrities may have secured a room early for the summit. And the good news is, Trump doesn’t have to sleep on Angela Merkel’s couch.
