Republican presidential nominee and taco bowl enthusiast Donald Trump is en route Wednesday to Mexico, a nation where virtually no one likes him.
Trump on Tuesday night tweeted that he would accept Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto’s invitation to meet with him in Mexico City. Trump has accused Mexico of sending rapists and criminals to the U.S., and President Peña Nieto has compared Trump to noted dictators Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini. Peña Nieto also told CNN that “there’s no way” Mexico will be able to pay for a wall between it and the United States, one of Trump’s most controversial and popular campaign promises.
No doubt these two guys will be able to work out their differences over a couple of margaritas, amirite?
The timing of Trump’s meeting with President Peña Nieto comes only hours before he is expected to give a much-delayed speech on immigration in Arizona. The Washington Post reported that Breitbart executive and recent Trump hire Stephen Bannon convinced Trump that the trip south of the border would be good publicity.
The ever-resilient Mexico, a land that has been plagued by Zika and UCSD frat boys on Spring Break, reacted with horror and disgust at the idea of Señor Trump crossing their borders.
“Your presence is not welcome in Mexico. Get out! You come to take the photo with whom you have offended,” tweeted Miguel Barbosa, a senator with the party of the Democratic Revolution:
. @realDonaldTrump tu presencia en México no es grata. ¡Lárgate! Vienes a tomarte la foto con quienes has ofendido.

Former Mexican president Vincente Fox recoiled at the idea of Trump using his homeland as a campaign prop.
“There is no turning back, Trump! Your offenses towards Mexicans, Muslims, and more have lead you to the pit where you are today. Goodbye, Trump!” reads the translated tweet from Fox.
No hay vuelta atrás, Trump, tus ofensas hacia los mexicanos, musulmanes y más, te han llevado al hoyo donde estás hoy ¡Adiós, Trump!

Trump responded that Fox had invited Trump to visit.
Former President Vicente Fox, who is railing against my visit to Mexico today, also invited me when he apologized for using the “f bomb.”

Fox, then the president of Mexico, declared in an interview back in February that he was “not going to pay for that fucking wall.” The then-Mexican president initially apologized for his use of profanity but then took back his apology after leaving office.
, I invited you to come and apologize to all Mexicans. Stop lying! Mexico is not yours to play with, show some respect.

The Mexican ambassador to China, another of Trump’s favorite nations, tweeted this:
When your team loses due to a stupid play and everyone laughs at you for rooting for them, that’s how I feel about Peña – Trump meeting.

Former Mexico First Lady Margarita Zavala tweeted, “Mr. Donald Trump, although you have been invited, know you are not welcome. The Mexicans have dignity and repudiate your speech of hate.”
Sr. @realDonaldTrump aunque lo hayan invitado, sepa que no es bienvenido. Los mexicanos tenemos dignidad y repudiamos su discurso de odio.

Finally, those north of the border joined in the roasting of Trump’s Mexico trip under the trending hashtag #TrumpsMexicoTripSayings:
