President Donald Trump just doubled down on the efforts to refute the claim that he called the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, “nasty.”
“I never called Meghan Markle ‘nasty,’” Trump wrote on Twitter, Sunday morning.
Trump then blamed the “fake news media” for making up the story.
I never called Meghan Markle “nasty.” Made up by the Fake News Media, and they got caught cold! Will @CNN, @nytimes and others apologize? Doubt it!

Trump’s camp, the Official Trump War Room, tweeted out the audio recording from the interview in question–with the intention of refuting the nasty comment claim on Saturday. The tweet only backfired.
In the audio recording, an interviewer from the Sun is heard asking Trump if he was disappointed he wouldn’t get to see Markle during his visit.
The interviewer then informed Trump that Markle said she would move to Canada, where she was filming Suits at the time, had he won the 2016 election.
“No I didn’t know that she was nasty,” Trump replied.

People were confused because the audio clearly backs up the claim that Trump did, in fact, call Markle nasty.
The responses ranged from, “Feels like the Trump War Room just lost the war” to the question of, “Are you trying to give a working definition of gaslighting?”
In the meantime, the city of London is getting ready to welcome Trump in what should be an awkward visit for the president, which is set for Monday.
During his visit, Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will attend a ceremony marking the 75th anniversary of the Normandy landings. Prince Harry will also attend the reception, but Markle will not because she is on maternity leave.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan, a well-known critic of Donald Trump, published an op-ed in the Guardian calling Trump a “20th Century Fascist” on Sunday. The Trump balloon baby is also slated to be floating around the city.
A chaotically awkward visit it should be, indeed.
