The Atlantic staff writer David Frum caught the wrath of some progressives and Democratic voters on Super Tuesday after targeting Bernie Sanders supporters’ ability “to pay their cable bill.”
“Joe Biden appeals to people who pay their cable bills on the day they arrive,” Frum said on BBC’s Newsnight. “Bernie Sanders appeals to people who may forget to pay their cable bill entirely…. the first group is more reliable.”
People were not having it, openly offended by Frum’s lackluster comparison.
“Here’s David Frum basically calling Bernie Sanders supporters poor,” progressive activist Jordan Uhl tweeted.
Briahna Joy Gray, Sanders’ national press secretary, even chimed in, rebutting Frum’s claim.
“Bernie Sanders appeals to people who can’t afford cable, and who are tired of barely concealed disdain for working class people from party elites,” Gray tweeted.
Twitter users further berated Frum for his comments, going after his previous tenure as a speechwriter for former President George W. Bush.
“Bernie Sanders appeals to people who think David Frum (George W. Bush speechwriter who created the term ‘axis of evil’ and helped start the Iraq War) should shut up,” writer Sam Adler-Bell tweeted.
Frum hasn’t outright responded to the criticism.
However, he opted to unearth an old tweet of his adding more fuel to his Super Tuesday commentary.
