Looking for a headset for online gaming? There are key points to consider before you buy. Is it comfortable? Is the voice chat clear? Most importantly, can I hear my enemies so I can properly dispense gaming justice?
Turtle Beach’s XO Three gaming headset hits all three of those areas at a price point that won’t firebomb your wallet. Style, sound and comfort are all a priority with this highly versatile headset.
While the box says Xbox One on it, the wired 3.5mm connection works with much more. You can use it with PlayStation 4 ,Nintendo Switch, PC and Mac computers, and mobile and tablet devices. I also used them with my Nintendo 2DS XL handheld console, so this could be the one headset for all your needs.
Straight out of the box, the XO Three feels sturdy. The over-the-ear 50mm speakers feel great with the fabric-wrapped ear cushions and leather-wrapped headband. After hours of gaming, I felt little fatigue from wearing the headset.
The Surround Sound-ready speakers were great in picking up sounds in my games and alerting me to where my enemies were located in relation to my position. I also got great range when using the headset to listen to my music, hitting clear highs and booming lows.
They block out exterior noise very well, keeping extraneous sounds out of the game. I was surprised how little sound was able to leak in, which is an unexpected feature.
Volume control and mic muting are located in the wired lines but well within fingertip reach. The Xo Three has a wheeled volume control sensitive enough to dial in the perfect amount of overall sound. There is no split control for separate game and chat channels.
The microphone is adjustable and detachable. You won’t be able to hear yourself, but you will be able to talk clearly to your teammates for those tactical missions. Occasionally, I had an issue when gamer friends said they could hear a popping noise when I spoke. Reseating the microphone seemed to fix the problem, so make sure it is pulled in securely.
If you want to take them on the go, the speakers pivot, providing for flatter storage in a backpack or messenger bag. The detachable microphone also helps with storage, unplugging and getting stashed in a side pocket.
At $69.99, the XO Three is a great bargain for the features and quality. The versatility with every device is incredibly valuable and means you will get a lot of usage out of this headset.
Time to suit up and hit the battlefield!
