Fans of the comic “Family Circus” took to Tumblr today as a way to pay tribute to its creator, Bil Keane, who died yesterday.

Keane created the soft-edged comic in 1960. It has since been syndicated to more than 1,500 newspapers across America. Fans offered their condolences and praised the comics on Tumblr, in posts like Breena Wiederhoeft’s:
“Bil Keane’s death has made me feel a genuine sadness, though I haven’t read Family Circus in years. It might be heavy-handed to say it feels like losing a grandfather, but for some reason that is the comparison that keeps coming to me.”
