A Texas representative said if the three female senators who oppose the Senate’s healthcare bill were men, he’d challenge them to a duel.

In a local radio interview with 1440 KEYS on Friday, Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-Corpus Christi) said the failing healthcare bill to repeal and replace Obamacare was the fault of “female senators from the Northeast.” “If it was a guy from South Texas, I might ask him to step outside and settle this Aaron Burr-style,” he said.

Farenthold was referring to when Vice President Burr shot and killed his political nemesis Alexander Hamilton in a duel.

“The fact that the Senate does not have the courage to do some of the things that every Republican in the Senate promised to do is just absolutely repugnant to me,” he said.

Last week, Sens. Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, Susan Collins of Maine, and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska all announced they oppose the latest draft of healthcare bill, in effect leaving Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell short on the votes needed to pass the replace and repeal. A vote on whether to further debate on rewriting the bill is still planned for Tuesday.
